Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club

Who We Are

The Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club has been a vital force in the Paducah McCracken County community for over sixty years.  It began with a dream of Oscar M. Cross, a probation officer, who saw a need for young men to set higher goals for themselves and prepare for their future.  Upon affiliation with the National Boys and Girls Club of America in 1953 more youth both male and female became active members and were introduced to ideals of good character, academic achievement, and citizenship.  It is the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to be all that they can be as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.  We also provide our kids a sense of belonging, usefulness, social competence, and power to influence the world around them.

What We Do

When our kids arrive from school they have 20 minutes of free time.  When that free time expires, what we call Power Hour commences.  Power Hour helps Club members achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring, and high-yield learning activities.  This time runs from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.  After Power Hour our kids participate in programs provided by our staff.  The programs run from 4:30pm to 5:30pm and include art, Spanish, cooking, poetry, leadership games, and Triple Play.  Triple Play is implemented to improve the overall health of our club members by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition, and helping them develop healthy relationships.
